Understanding JPG to PDF
Converting images to PDF is a daily task for millions of people. Photographing receipts for expense reports, scanning ID documents for online submissions, packaging project photos for client reports, or combining screenshots into a single deliverable — the need to turn images into PDFs is constant. PDFLama's JPG to PDF converter handles all these workflows entirely in your browser, with no server uploads and no account requirements.
Why convert images to PDF?
PDFs are the universal standard for document exchange. They look identical on every device, can't be accidentally edited (unless you explicitly want that), embed images at full resolution, and are accepted everywhere documents are expected. JPEG and PNG files, by contrast, don't have a standard page size concept, look different in different viewers, and are not expected in professional document contexts.
Converting your images to PDF means: consistent presentation across all devices, a single downloadable file instead of multiple images, professional appearance for client submissions, and compatibility with document management systems, email attachments, and legal filing systems that expect PDF.
Handling multiple images: order, layout, and sizing
PDFLama gives you drag-and-drop control over the order of images in the final PDF. Thumbnail previews appear as you upload, so you can verify the sequence is correct before converting. Each image becomes one page in the output PDF.
Page size options: A4 (297×210mm) and US Letter (11×8.5in) are the most common. For oversized content — architectural drawings, large photographs, or posters — A3 gives you double the area. You can also enter a custom width and height if your images have non-standard dimensions.
Image scaling: 'Fit to page' scales the image to fill the chosen page size while maintaining aspect ratio, leaving small margins. 'Fill page' crops slightly to fill the exact page dimensions. 'Original size' embeds the image at its native pixel dimensions, which may result in very large or very small pages depending on image resolution.
Margins: Professional documents typically have 10–15mm margins. PDFLama defaults to 10mm, which produces clean-looking pages for most document types. For passport-style ID scans or full-bleed photo documentation, reduce margins to 0.
Common use cases
Expense reports: Take photos of receipts with your phone's camera, upload them to PDFLama, arrange chronologically, and convert to a single PDF for submission to your accounts department or expense app. No scanner needed.
ID document submissions: Many online portals, landlords, and HR departments request ID documents as a single PDF. Photograph the front and back of your passport, driving licence, or identity card, upload both images, and convert to a clean two-page PDF.
Photo documentation: Architects, engineers, site managers, and photographers frequently need to package site photos, progress images, or inspection photographs into a PDF report for clients or project records. Convert multiple photos into a neat paginated PDF in under a minute.
Portfolio assembly: Artists, photographers, and designers can combine portfolio images into a single PDF for email submission to clients, galleries, or agencies — without needing InDesign or any other layout software.
Maintaining image quality in the output PDF
PDFLama embeds images at their original resolution by default — a 4000×3000 pixel photo stays at 4000×3000 pixels inside the PDF. The JPEG encoding applied to images within the PDF uses quality 90 by default, preserving virtually all visual detail. If file size is a concern after conversion, use Compress PDF to reduce the output size while maintaining acceptable quality.
For professional print output, ensure your source images are at least 300 DPI at the intended print size. For digital-only PDFs, 150 DPI source images are perfectly adequate and produce much smaller output files.

Get better results with JPG to PDF
Match page orientation to your images
Portrait images look best on A4 Portrait. Landscape photos look best on A4 Landscape or Letter Landscape. Mixing orientations is fine — each page retains its image's natural aspect ratio.
Sort images before uploading for efficiency
Name your files in the desired order (01_cover.jpg, 02_page1.jpg…) before uploading — this lets you confirm the sequence before committing to convert.
Use PNG for logos or images with transparency
JPG doesn't support transparency. If your image has a transparent background, use PNG format — PDFLama handles it correctly and fills transparency with white.
Compress the PDF after conversion for email
Images embed at full resolution by default, which can produce large PDFs. Run the output through Compress PDF to reduce size for email sharing without visible quality loss.
